It’s a warm one out there! I think we hit 107 degrees today in Tucson. We’ve been so spoiled with weather lately and now getting slammed with a heatwave. Sure makes for some amazing sunsets, though!
I’m pretty excited to be included in the latest issue of @arizonahighways! An image I took last summer at San Xavier caught the attention of their editors and they decided to do a Q&A full page spread about it! Swipe left to see the article and be sure to check out all the other awesome images in there too :)
I’ve been feeling pretty under the weather lately but it’s amazing what a couple of stargazing and good company can do for you. ⠀ EXIF - Single Exposure ⠀ Camera: Sony a7s2 Lens: Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 Shutter: 15 seconds ISO: 6400
Swipe left to see the iconic mittens at Monument Valley being lit by a beautiful sunset. The haze you see you in the pano is from 40mph winds blowing dust through the valley. ⠀ Geek Stuff - Single Exposures ⠀ Camera: Nikon d850 Lens: Nikon 14-24 f/11 Shutter: 1/250 seconds ISO: 100 18 shots stitched and processed in LR/PS. This image is huge and can be printed on very large mediums!
Milkyway arching over Monument Valley. This place is loaded with amazing views. Where’s your favorite at this iconic location? ⠀ Geek Stuff - Single Exposures ⠀ Camera: Nikon d850 Lens: Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 Shutter: 20 seconds ISO: 10,000 9 shots stitched and processed in LR/PS
Currently up in Prescott enjoying the cold stormy weather and it’s getting me really excited my future storm chasing adventures next month. Anyone else excited for monsoon season?
It’s that time of year! Mother Nature has shown her energetic side in Tornado Alley this week and is off to a crazy start. Join @johnsirlin and I in a few all-inclusive extreme (and safe) private photography tours this spring / summer as we explore all the photogenic storm structures she has to offer. From tornados to lighting, and John’s 28+ years of experienced weather forecasting, we will take you to the safest locations to capture some jaw-dropping photos. Unlike most tours who seat you in a 8-10 person van, you will be in a 4-person comfortable luxurious SUV with John and I as we talk all things weather and photography related while chasing some amazing weather. Last weekend for both Easter and Earth Day, I decided to have a getaway at this incredible desert oasis called @thebuttesmarriott. From the tastiest brunch ever, to the various hot tubs nestled into the rocks, to the fun water slide that made me feel like a kid again, I was able to completely unwind and relax. Thanks to Top of the Rock restaurant for letting me taste your new food menu that will be rolling out soon... the chicken & carnitas doughnuts were so unique and delicious! I highly recommend this place for those looking to visit the Phoenix area! #thebuttesmarriott
Gotta love these dark desert skies that Arizona has to offer. I’ve been photographing the night sky out here for 7ish years and it continues to amaze me. Endless compositions! This might be a new favorite of mine. Look out for another batch of Astro workshops coming out in a few weeks :) ⠀ EXIF - Single Exposure ⠀ Camera: Sony a7s2 Lens: Tamron 15-30 @ f/2.8 Shutter: 15 seconds ISO: 6400 Tripod: @vanguardworld ALTA Pro 2+ 264 carbon fiber Memory: @pnyusa 512gb Elite SD Card ⠀ Challenges: Weather & compositions. While the desert might offer countless angles and “bangers”, finding them at night can be really tricky. I always teach in my workshops to scout in the day time and use apps with augmented reality to find your shots but I didn’t have time to do that at this location. We also had some cloud cover coming in so my window with the rising Milkyway and clear skies was very thin. Super thankful I was able to get this since I’m about a 4 hour drive round trip from
We had a beautiful sunrise on our final morning in Lake Powell during our houseboat photography trip last month w/ @visitlakepowell . I still can’t believe places like this still exist. We had the entire bay to ourselves for 3 whole days and we barely put a dent in the areas we wanted to explore. I anxiously await our return. Workshops coming soon :). Be sure to read our challenges for the shot for this photo below the EXIF. ⠀ ⠀ EXIF - Single Exposure ⠀ Camera: Sony a7s2 Lens: Tamron 15-30 @ f/11 Shutter: 4 seconds ISO: 100 Tripod: @vanguardworld ALTA Pro 2+ 264 carbon fiber Memory: @pnyusa 512gb Elite SD Card ⠀ Challenges: Weather & energy. After an all nighter of shooting startrails and waiting for Milkyway, we were ready to call it and hike back to our boat as the sun started coming up. With the clouds blocking our Milkyway shooting and motivation to keep going, we almost skipped sunrise. As we started picking up, we noticed the clouds were breaking and getting thinner
I’m super excited to be spending the next few days / nights out in the Superstition Wilderness with my private and group workshop guests. This place always amazes me and I’m excited to see what we all come away with! ⠀ EXIF - Single Exposure ⠀ Camera: Sony a7s2 Lens: Tamron 15-30 @f/4 Shutter: 20 seconds ISO: 1600 Tripod: @vanguardworld ALTA Pro 2+ 264 carbon fiber Memory: @pnyusa 512gb Elite SD Card
