As much as I am enjoying my visit Scotland I have to say that I’m not really enjoying the crowds of tourists. Now to be fair I’m also a tourist and in part no different. I do miss my little spots in BC and have come to realize that perhaps it’s time to keep some of the locations to myself. It’s a bit of a difficult situation that I’ve put myself in as portraying these places that I love on YouTube only makes the situation worse as many of my viewers now want to visit those areas. Each day I receive emails from folk who want to know exact locations to areas that I’ve shot, it’s a tough one. I love sharing my experiences but don’t want theses areas to end up like what I’m experiencing now or places like Emerald Lake, pictured here.

The portly prince (Gavin Hardcastle) and I have teamed up once again. This time we’re offering a workshop in Port Renfrew, April 2020. Be sure to visit my website or Fototripper.com for more info. This image was a great find at one of the locations that we’ll be visiting during the workshop.

That’s what I love about Vancouver Island, discovering the little gems that are hidden throughout the island. His lordship the portly prince (Gavin Hardcastle) had some vague information about this cool little spot complete with a photo worthy bridge behind it so off we went to search for this elusive gem. Found it! Don’t bother asking where it is you’ll have to do your own research after all that’s the fun part of photography finding neat things to shoot. If you do know this spot please keep it to yourself you will be deleted.

Last video from my trip to China this coming Saturday. In this vlog we make our way back to Huangshan for some low cloud and otherworldly peaks. This image is a bit more subdued but I just liked the subtle layers.

One of my earlier images taken with a digital camera. My first digital camera was a Mamiya 645D with a Kodak DCS digital back, it was an awesome setup for back then, boy we have come a long way in the digital era. Funny though, technology has changed but the fundamentals behind what makes a successful image haven’t. You still need good light, composition and design. Not sure about this image but I’ve always liked it but never shown it, I took it while doing an assignment for British Columbia magazine on the Wildside trail not far from Tofino about 11 years ago,

New vlog is out on my YouTube channel, link in bio. In this video Gavin Hardcastle and I trek out to Brady’s Beach in Bamfield to try our hand at photographing some sea stacks. The light wasn’t stellar so I concentrated on some beach sand patterns.

A super evening of light and drama in Huangshan. Space was limited for this view and I had a lineup of photographers waiting to pounce on my turf, there was no way that I was giving up this spot when the light was so great, lol

I was out photographing pink fawn lilies today not far from Port Renfrew and it reminded me of this image that I took probably almost 20 yrs ago. The image is two transparencies, one focused on the flower the other blurry and then sandwiched to create a dreamy effect coined the Orton effect. The Lillie’s are just about at their peak right now.

Something a bit more local. An image that I took several weeks ago while out and about with @marulandscapes in Sasquatch Provincial Park. Didn’t see any Bigfoot so settled on this burnt log leaning against a waterfall
